Hate crime is increasing but is underreported
It is widely accepted that hate crimes are under-reported. Not all victims are comfortable with reporting their experiences directly to the police.
Hate Crime is defined as any criminal offence that is perceived by the victim or any other person as being motivated by prejudice or hate, based on a person’s actual or perceived race, religious belief, sexual orientation, disability or gender identity.
The Swindon Safeguarding Partnership has loads of information about hate crime including definitions and reporting alternatives.
The Wiltshire Police website also has a dedicated section on bullying including what it is and how to report it.
Remember that in emergencies you should call the police on 999. You should use 101 if it is a non-emergency situation.
